The Minimal Common Oncology Data Elements (mCode) project is a consensus data standard created to facilitate transmission of data of patients with cancer.
mCode files are available for download from the NCI EVS ftp site (https://evs.nci.nih.gov/ftp1/mCode/) in excel spreadsheet format. The second tab contains the hierarchy of the mCode Terminology. Several subsets are compilations of other subsets, the subsets are listed only once in the spreadsheet.
Spreadsheet Column | Content Description |

Value Set Code | The NCIt code of the value set. |
Value Set Name | The NCIt name of the value set. |
NCIt Code | The code attached to the concept assigned by NCIt. This code is unique. |
Code System | mCode has provided data from 5 code systems: HL7, ICD-10 CM, LOINC, SNOMED CT and the Unified Code of Units of Measure. |
Source Code | mCode has provided the code used internally for the various sources. |
mCode PT | The preferred term that mCode has assigned to the concept. |
NCIt PT | The preferred term that EVS staff has assigned to the concept. |
NCIt Definition | A definition for the concept provided by EVS staff. |
The database is reconciled the last Monday of every month; this is the database from which a production version is generated to correspond to the files posted on the ftp site. The version is noted in the tab of the worksheet. The files will be posted during the following two weeks.
