This spreadsheet of terminology has been developed at the request of the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development by the Enterprise Vocabulary Services (EVS) of the the National Cancer Institute (NCI). It is produced in the NCI Thesaurus (NCIt). It will be produced in 3 formats - .xls, .xlsx, and .txt and will have an accompanying .txt file of a hierarchy generated specifically for the NICHD. For more information on the NICHD, visit their web site: www.nichd.nih.gov A text of changes from one version to the next will also be posted with each new version. Each publication of a set of terminology is linked to a specific version of the thesaurus. This initial set of terminology is Pre-Release, meaning it is in the pre-publication version of the NCIt. Release is anticipated during October 2010. Below is an explanation of the column headers for the terminology: NCIt Code: The NCIt code is a unique machine readable identifier attached to each concept in the NCI Thesaurus. A concept is the term assigned to a word, its synonyms, and the definition. The code itself contains no information other than identification. NCIt PT: The NCIt PT is the Preferred Term, the most common term for a particular concept in the view of NCIt. Each term has one NCIt PT. NICHD PT: The NICHD PT is the Preferred Term chosen by the NICHD for a particular concept. NCIt Definition: The NCIt Definition is a statement of the meaning of a particular concept. NCIt Code of NICHD Parent: The NCIt Code is the unique identifier assigned to the NICHD parent concept. A relationship has been established to a concept that NICHD considers an appropriate parent in a hierarchy. At present, NCIt has over 90,000 concepts; the creation of this relationship enables a hierarchical view of a desired subset. NICHD PT of NICHD Parent: The NICHD PT is the Preferred Term chosed by NICHD to be assigned to the NICHD chosen Parent concept. NICHD PT of NICHD Subset: The NICHD PT is the Preferred Term chosen by NICHD to be assigned to the Name of the Subset Association. Concepts belonging to a particular list of terms are linked by a subset association.
